The Only Ombudswoman Gutierrez
Gutierrez graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University Law School in 1972 wherein she was the classmate of First Gentleman Mike Arroyo.
She assumed the Office of the Philippine Ombudsman on December 1, 2005 as the first female to head the post. One of the many appointees of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Serving the people or serving her personal interests? One of the numerous questions of Juan De La Cruz to every public officials. Sometimes I even compare the corrupt public official to a typical snatcher of a cellphone or any valuable things that they can easily sell for food or for any reason why they have to do that. So I think the corrupt public official had to have a higher education to steal more money than a snatcher. Gutierrez is not proven of any wrongdoings but Ma'am if you really wanted to serve the people we are asking you is to tell the truth because the people are in thirst of justice..

Goodbye Angie Reyes

Opening a can of worms?
Apart from the “send-off” money, Reyes also received P5 million monthly discretionary funds from the military comptroller office, Rabusa added.
Rabusa also alleged that the succeeding heads of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Generals Diomedio Villanueva and Roy Cimatu also received P10 million each as “pasalubong” or welcome gift when they assumed the AFP leadership. He said that the source of such funds was the Provision for Command Directed Activities (PCDA).
Over the years, the “pabaon” system has become a tradition in the military, Rabusa added.
Former AFP Chief of Staff, Angelo Reyes was invited during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing following the allegations from Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that Garcia who now faces plunder charges is protecting a powerful person.
During the hearing Reyes denied the allegations and said he was never involved in the preparations of the PCDA funds.
Senator Trillanes admitted he was irked by Reyes’ claim that he never benefited from corruption while in the service. It may be recalled that Trillanes was jailed for more than seven years for participating in the Oakwood Mutiny that exposed corruption in the military. He believed Reyes is corrupt and one of the principals in Garcia’s case.

Where in the world is Ping Lacson?

Witnesses recall death fall from Makati building
MAKATI CITY, Philippines – Images of human bodies bent and broken like ragdolls are haunting witnesses and emergency workers who were among the first to respond to a construction site accident in Makati City on Thursday.
An emergency medical dispatcher, Mark Bocalbos, said it was a scene he won’t forget.
“Maraming dugo na nagkalat. Kita ko dislocated bones, [yung] iba, duguan ang ulo,” he said.
The accident occurred at the Eton Tower located at the corner of Paseo de Roxas and Gallardo streets in Makati City.
The workers fell from a suspended "gondola" – a basket-like platform used for installing glass windows, according to Eton spokesperson Erwin de Pedro.
Stunning scene
Bocalbos’ team received an emergency call around 11:00 a.m. from a security guard in the area where the accident occurred.
They were stunned by what they saw when they arrived.
“Nakaka-shock. [Nung] tingnan ko, wala na vital signs. Isang ulo biyak na. Halos yun tenga halos mawala na rin sa laki nung biyak,” he said.
Bocalbos said it was the first time in his 3 years working as an emergency response worker that he saw such a tragedy.
He said the 3 workers who were among the last to be brought out of the building had the most serious injuries.
“Na-iimagine ko, paano kaya kung ako yun? Siyempre naiisip ko rin yun mga kamag-anak nila, mga pamilyang naiwan nila,” Bocalbos said.
An investigator said the gondola that the workers were riding and were using as an elevator may have been overloaded.
"Bumagsak ang gondola. Maaaring overloading at nalagot ang tali na may hawak dito. Puwede ring nagkaroon ng malfunction, dalawa o tatlo lang kasi ang kaya nun,” he said.
Loud crack
A company driver, Luis Tolentino, was sitting on a parking lot across the construction site when he heard a loud crack.
Tolentino said the men were clutching each other, screaming, as they hit a lower floor.
Tolentino said he then noticed some 4 to 5 men still dangling on a metal gondola that was also hanging precariously on the side of the tower.
A few seconds later, the gondola and the men, came crashing down.
"Parang akong nakakita ng shooting ng pelikula sir, pero totoo ang nangyayari. Yung isa sa kanilang nakasabit nakita ko yung mukha lumolobo at kulay pakwan na,” he said.
A few minutes later, Tolentino noticed a rescue team approaching the men, who were piled on top of each other.
He said rescuers then pulled the victims out one by one.
Overloaded gondola?
Senior Fire Officer 1 Jefferson Robles, a member of the Bureau of Fire’s special rescue unit, said the gondola that the workers were riding and were using as an elevator may have been overloaded.
Eton management, quoting eyewitness accounts, said in a press statement that the workers were about to have their break time before 11 a.m.
Instead of taking the stairs going down from the 11th floor, the workers rode the gondola, the company said.
It added that the platform can only carry 2 to 3 workers, but about a dozen rode the platform, causing its cable to snap.
Eton management sent its condolences to the families of the victims and vowed to safety regulations in construction projects.

Blast from the Past

After the Marcos family fled Malacañang Palace, Marcos was found to have left behind 15 mink coats, 508 gowns, 1000 handbags[12] and 3000 pairs of shoes. The exact number of shoes varies between accounts; estimates of up to 3000 pairs of shoes have been published,[13] but Time later reported that the final tally was 1,060.[14] In 1992, Marcos claimed that her fortune came from Yamashita's Gold.[15] In February 2006, Marcos insisted that her husband had acquired his wealth legitimately as a gold trader. By the late 1950s, she claimed, he had amassed a personal fortune of 7,500 tons of gold, and after gold prices climbed in the 1970s, the Marcos family was worth about $35 billion.[8] However, the Bureau of Internal Revenue has no record of the Marcos family declaring or paying taxes on these assets[citation needed], and the source of their wealth remains open to investigation.[8]
Ousted President Marcos died in exile on September 28, 1989. President Aquino refused to permit the repatriation of his remains for national-security reasons.[16] The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the government in Marcos vs. Manglapus.[17] In 1991, Marcos was allowed to return home. Marcos was the first wife of a foreign head of state to stand trial in an American court. In 1990, she was acquitted of racketeering and fraud charges, alongside co-defendant Adnan Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian former billionaire and arms dealer. The "theatrical" trial involved many celebrities: Marcos and Khashoggi were represented by trial lawyer Gerry Spence; Marcos' $5-million-dollar bail was posted by tobacco heiress, Doris Duke, who befriended her while they both lived in Hawaii; and actor George Hamilton was a star witness for the defense.
In 1992, Mrs. Marcos ran and finished fifth in the seven-way presidential race. Her votes were split between her, with 2,338,294 votes, and Ambassador Eduardo Cojuangco, Jr., a close advisor and friend of Ferdinand Marcos, with 4,116,376 votes. Fidel Ramos, the candidate endorsed by Corazon Aquino, received 5.3 million and won the election.[19]
In 1995, she was elected Congresswoman of Leyte, representing the first district of her home province. She overwhelmingly defeated then Rep. Cirilo Montejo by a landslide victory (70,471 votes against Montejo's 36,833 votes). Initially, a disqualification case was filed against her but the Supreme Court ruled in favor of her.
1998 presidential campaign
In 1998, she made another bid for the presidency but later backed out of the race to support the candidacy of then Vice President Joseph Ejercito Estrada. Marcos finished 9th among 11 candidates vying for the Philippine government's top post. During the administration of her friend and ally, President Joseph Estrada, many of the cases filed by the Aquino government were dismissed by Ombudsman Aniano Desierto, owing to technicalities (lapse of the prescriptive period for filing cases). On June 29, 1998, the Sandiganbayan (Philippine anti-corruption court) convicted the Former First Lady of the charge that she had entered into an agreement disadvantageous to the government. On appeal, the Supreme Court reversed the decision and cited Sandiganbayan Justice Francis Gatchitorena for his alleged bias against Mrs. Marcos.
